The SCC Cougars baseball team punched its ticket to the Regional Tournament after winning a two-game sub‑regional series against Metropolitan Community College. The Cougars avenged an earlier four‑game series loss to Metropolitan this season, in which they fell 3–1, and now advance with momentum into regional play.
Game one took place on Friday, May 1st at 2:30 pm. The Cougars hit four home runs in the game, leading to their 12-5 win. The Cougars first captured the lead, 4-1, in the top of the third when Kurt Leiber hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Ethan Chiodini homered to right field, scoring three runs. Chance Greene added to the lead at the top of the fourth when he hit a solo home run to right field. Brenan Goering hit a home run in the fifth to add another two runs. Jaiden Glency scored one run in the top of the eighth on a solo home run to right field.
The Cougars amassed 16 hits in the game. Nick Alagna went 4-for-6 on the plate to lead in hits. Davis Robinson, Chance Greene, and Ethan Chiodini each collected multiple hits. Jacksen Tankersley started as pitcher for St Charles. He surrendered eight hits and four runs (three earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and walking two. Jeter Rupp appeared in relief for St Charles CC Cougars.
The next afternoon, the teams returned for game two. After three run less innings for both sides, the Cougars opened the scoring in the fourth after Kurt Leiber hit a solo home run to right field. The lead was increased to 5-0 after a ground ball by Jaiden Glency and a single by Brenan Goering, each scoring one run, and a triple by Nick Alagna scoring two. Metro attempted a comeback, but the Cougars held them off for the remainder of the game, winning 6-5.
This win will take the Cougars to the Regional Tournament, with their first game being May 7th.
