Baseball Splits Series with St. Louis Community College

St. Charles Community College Baseball faced St. Louis Community College (STLCC) this past weekend in a Region matchup. The teams played four total games, two at home on Friday at Carshield Field and two at STLCC Meramec Fields on Saturday. The Cougars split the series 2-2 with the Archers, winning games two and four.  

 

Game One 

The Cougars lost 13-12 in game one of the series.  

The Cougars got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning after STLCC committed an error, and Phillip Fry Jr. grounded into a double play, each scoring one run. 

STLCC captured the lead, 4-2, in the top of the third when they hit a solo home run to left field, singled, and hit another homer. The St Charles Cougars took over the lead again, 6-4, in the bottom of the third when Brenan Goering doubled, scoring one run, Kurt Leiber grounded out, scoring one run, and Chance Greene homered to center field, scoring two runs. However, STLCC took the lead back in the top of the fourth. Nick Alagna doubled, which helped the Cougars tie the game at seven in the bottom of the fourth. 

STLCC scored five runs on six hits in the top of the seventh inning, strengthening their lead, 13-7. The Cougars fought back just as hard in the bottom of the seventh, scoring five runs on five hits. Ethan Chiodini homered to right field, scoring two runs; Ethan Lipp doubled, scoring one run; and Carlos Carlo doubled, scoring two runs. Despite the fight, the Cougars lost by one run.  

Game Two 

In game two, St Charles Cougars defeated STLCC 8-6.  

The Cougars scored first after Ethan Lipp homered to right field, scoring two runs in the second inning. STLCC followed up and hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the third. Ayden Katzenberg homered to left field, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth, increasing their lead to 5-1. The Cougars scored one run in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run to right field, once again by Katzenberg. STLCC made a push late in the game, in the eighth inning, scoring three runs, but couldn't make up the lead that the Cougars set. 

Game Three 

The Cougars fell 7-4 to STLCC on Saturday, despite out-hitting them nine to three. Kurt Leiber and Chance Greene each collected two hits for St Charles. 

STLCC got on the board in the bottom of the second inning, scoring 4 runs. They added another run in the third after a groundout, allowing a runner to score. In the top of the fourth, the Cougars pushed back, scoring three runs. The Cougars scored again in the fifth on a single from Chiodini. But they couldn't quite make up the lead that STLCC secured. 

Game Four 

The St Charles Cougars took down STLCC 14-8 in the final game of the series. 

Jonathon Frey collected four hits in five at-bats in the win. Frey doubled in the third inning, doubled in the seventh inning, singled in the seventh inning, and singled in the second inning. 

The Cougars opened the scoring at the top of the third, getting four runs thanks to three doubles. But, STLCC flipped the game in the bottom of the inning, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 5-4.  

The Cougars took over in the top of the seventh, scoring nine runs, making the score 14-7.  

St Charles CC Cougars collected 19 hits in the final game. Leiber and Frey each drove in three runs for St Charles CC Cougars. Carlo, Alagna, Lipp, Jaiden GlencyJackson Koch, and Goering each collected multiple hits for St Charles.  

 

The men travel to State Fair Community College on Thursday, March 19th, for their next game.
