SCC Baseball Takes on the Three River Raiders

SCC Baseball faced Three Rivers College this past week in a 4-game, two-day series. On Thursday, February 26th, the Cougars traveled to Poplar Bluff, MO, for the first two games. Then, on Saturday, February 28th, the team was at home to face them again in the final two games.  

 

Game One 

Even though St Charles CC Cougars and Three Rivers Raiders both had their opportunities, it was the Three Rivers Raiders that eventually prevailed 11-8 in game one at Poplar Bluff.  

St Charles CC Cougars opened the scoring in the first after Kurt Leiber singled, scoring one run. In the bottom of the first inning, the Three Rivers Raiders took over the lead after a homer to left field and two additional runs. The SCC Cougars led once again in the top of the third inning after Ethan Chiodini singled, Jonathon Frey singled, and Nick Alagna hit into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run. The Three Rivers Raiders captured the lead, 7-5, in the bottom of the fourth. St Charles CC Cougars tied the game in the top of the fifth thanks to a single by Alagna and a walk by Bo Cooper. A walk by Leiber gave St Charles CC Cougars the lead, 8-7, in the top of the sixth. Three Rivers Raiders captured the lead and held on, 11-8, in the bottom of the sixth, scoring 4 runs in the inning. 

St Charles CC Cougars collected 13 hits in the game. Lieber collected three hits in three at-bats in the loss. Lieber singled in the first inning, in the third inning, and in the fifth inning. Frey, Alagna, Ethan Lipp, and Jaiden Glency each collected multiple hits for St Charles CC Cougars.  

Game Two 

Three Rivers Raiders got on the board in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three runs to kickstart their lead. The next innings went without any runs until Three Rivers scored four runs at the bottom of the fourth. Kurt Leiber worked to get the Cougars back in the game by hitting a grand slam to center field in the top of the fifth, making the score 4-7. The Raiders scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth on a home run to left field, winning the game with a score of 4-12.  

Leiber, Chiodini, Brenan Goering, Alagna, and Ayden Katzberg each collected one hit for St Charles CC Cougars in the game. 

Game Three 

After a day off, the teams were back to face off again on Saturday, February 28th, now at home for the Cougars. It came down to the wire, as the Cougars grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 13-12, over the Three Rivers Raiders.  

St Charles Cougars took the lead in the bottom of the second. Jackson Koch singled, scoring two runs, to give the Cougars the lead, 2-1. Three Rivers Raiders flipped the game on its head in the top of the third, scoring five runs to take the lead, 6-2. The Cougars took the lead again in the bottom of the fourth inning after Carlos Carlo flew out, and Jaiden Glency homered to center field, each scoring one run. However, the lead didn't last as the Three Rivers Raiders took over again, 8-7, in the top of the fifth. St Charles CC Cougars captured the final lead, 13-12, in the bottom of the seventh after Brenan Goering doubled down the right field line, and Davis Robinson singled to right field, each scoring one run. 

Sullivan led things off on the mound for the Cougars. The starting pitcher allowed five hits and 11 runs (four earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out five and walking four.  

St Charles CC Cougars collected 18 hits in the game. Koch led the team with four hits in four at-bats. Leiber, Frey, Glency, and Koch each drove in two runs for St Charles CC Cougars. Chiodini and Goering each collected multiple hits for St Charles CC Cougars.  

Game Four 

Alagna drove in four runs on three hits to lead St Charles CC Cougars past Three Rivers Raiders 12-2 on Saturday. Alagna singled in the second inning, scoring one run, and singled in the second inning, scoring one. 

The bottom of the lineup was strong for St Charles CC Cougars. Carlos CarloNick Alagna, and Bo Cooper combined for five of the team's 10 hits in their victory. They scored four runs and drove in seven. A double put the Three Rivers Raiders on the board at the top of the first. St Charles CC Cougars flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring nine runs on six hits to take the lead, 9-2. From then on, the win was clear for the Cougars. The Couguars scored one run in the fifth, when Carlos Carlo scored on a wild pitch, and two runs in the sixth, after Alagna hit a ground ball, allowing Jonathon Frey and Ethan Lipp to score.
