Cougars Softball Week Recap

Softball has had a packed week of games this week, playing a total of six games in the last four days. To start the week, the Cougars were on the road. The first stop was Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City for a doubleheader on Monday, April 27th. From there, the women traveled to Sedalia, MO, to play State Fair for another doubleheader on Tuesday. They then had a day to rest before playing MSU West Plains on Thursday for the third and final doubleheader, concluding their regular season play. With several wins this week, the women end the regular season with a record of 31-17. This is the second year in a row with over 30 wins!

Metropolitan Community College

In the doubleheader with Metro, the Cougars split, winning the first game, 7-2, and losing the second, 8-9. The women were hitting big in game one, getting three home runs (Nevaeh Carter, Alayna Johnson, and Maddy Seifert) and 11 hits total in the game. Game two went into extra innings after being tied 6-6 in the seventh. Unfortunately, Metro was able to score the winning run in the bottom of the ninth for a walk-off win.

State Fair

In Sedalia, the women won both games, 4-2 and 13-4. Game one was strong for pitcher, Maci Knowles. Maci pitched all seven innings, giving up four hits and two runs, walking two, and striking out 10. The Cougars had 11 hits in game two, with Lorelei Johnson leading with three and Alayna Johnson leading in RBIs with four due to a grand slam home run in the third inning.

MSU West Plains

The Cougars face MSU West Plains at Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex. The Cougars won both games, getting at least 15 hits in both games. Hannah Cantrell led in hits for the day, getting four, followed closely by Yasmin Sandoval and Lorelei Johnson, both with three. Yasmin led with RBIs, getting four in game one.

The women will start post-season play with Regionals next week, on Thursday, May 7th.
