Softball Defeats Metropolitan Community College in Weekend Doubleheader

Softball faced Metropolitan Community College this weekend for a doubleheader. The Cougars came out victorious, winning both games.  

In game one, the cougars kicked off the scoring, getting two runs in the first inning. The following 5 innings were run less for both sides. Metro took a late lead, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh. However, SCC didn't let them win, scoring two runs for a walk-off win, 4-3.  

Maci Knowles pitched the win for the Cougars. She allowed six hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking three.  Ella Lause led with three runs batted in, going 3-for-4 in the game. Yasmin Sandoval collected two hits in four at bats. 

The Cougars took the lead to start the game again in game two, scoring two runs in the second inning. Metro scored single runs in the third, fifth, and sixth innings, switching the score in their favor. The Cougars pushed back in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs to make it 4-3 and win the game.  

Alayna Johnson and Zoey Robinson each collected two hits in game two. Alayna Johnson, Addy ThorntonChloe Turnbull, and Zoey Robinson each drove in one run. 

Ayla Smith opened in game two. Smith gave up six hits and three runs over six innings, striking out four and walking two. Maci Knowles threw one inning in relief.  

Next up, the Lady Cougs will face Three Rivers College on Tuesday, April 21st, for a doubleheader in Poplar Bluff, MO.
