Head Coach Victor Mathuthu’s Remarks
I’m really proud of how we competed this weekend. This was one of those meets where you start to see things come together at the right time. We had athletes step up across the board, from national qualifiers to school records and a lot of personal bests, and that’s exactly what we need heading into the postseason.
What stood out to me the most was the competitiveness and the belief. Xander breaking the school record and moving to second in the country, Brayden getting a huge national qualifier in the 400, and both relay teams stepping up with school records — those are big-time performances.
At the same time, we are not satisfied. There’s still another level we can reach. Some of these performances showed us what we are capable of, but now the expectation is consistency. We have to keep pushing, stay disciplined, and focus on the small details.
This is the time of the season when it matters most. If we continue to train the right way and compete with this kind of energy, we are going to put ourselves in a great position at nationals.”
