Cougars at NJCAA Region 16 Cross Country Championships

The St. Charles Community College Cross Country team delivered an outstanding performance at the NJCAA Region 16 Championships, held on October 24, 2025, at Larry G. Crites Memorial Park in Festus, Missouri. Competing against strong regional opponents, our Cougars showed remarkable effort, teamwork, and steady progress throughout the season.
 
Women’s 5K
 
Zoe Johnson continued her impressive season with a 6th place finish in the women’s 5K, clocking a time of 21:34.83. Her strong performance keeps her ranked #18 nationally in NJCAA Division III — a testament to her hard work and consistency this fall.
 
Men’s 8K
 
On the men’s side, Gavin Vaughn led the Cougars, finishing 12th in 31:51.42. Harrison Zeier followed close behind in 14th place with a time of 33:03.62, and Henry Krussell rounded out the group with an 18th-place finish in 36:14.92. All three athletes showed grit and determination through a tough course and competitive field.
 
Coach’s Reflections
 
Head Track and Field Coach/ Cross Country  Victor Mathuthu shared his pride in the team’s accomplishments, noting that every athlete achieved a personal best time during the meet.
“I’m extremely proud of how far these athletes have come. Week after week, we’ve seen tremendous improvement, both in their performances and their confidence. Their dedication is paying off,” said Coach Mathuthu.
 
Next Stop: Nationals
 
With regionals behind them, three Cougars will advance to the NJCAA National Championships in Fort Dodge, Iowa, on November 8, 2025. The team will travel on November 7 to attend the coaches’ meeting and finalize preparations for race day.
